Tapestry Cushion Cover "Horses"

ITEM NUMBER: 89692

The most famous tapestry of all, The Bayeux Tapestry was certainly designed by the famous school of needlework at Canterbury, and possibly sewn here as well. It depicts the Norman Conquest of England in 1066 by William, Duke of Normandy. Bishop Odo of Bayeux, William's half brother, who he made Earl of Kent, commissioned it. The style of embroidery is undoubtedly English and so patron Odo would probably have used Canterbury, as the principle town of his Earldom and a major artistic centre, to design if not produce it.

Cushion cover 'Horses', 20 x 20" / 50 x 50 cms.
